Why I Do What I Do

I am immensely fortunate to be a part of such an amazing and dedicated team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff at the Veterinary Dental Center. Growing up my grandfather had a small farm in Pakistan that I would visit in the summers. My father was in the military, so I moved around a lot, but the summers at the farm was home base. Some of my happiest memories are from the time I spent there, tending to the animals with my dad and grandpa. I feel extremely blessed that I was able to turn my love of animals into my profession. In six years of primary care practice, I have had the opportunity to treat and manage pet health as well as educate pet parents. I am excited to be working with such distinguished specialists in helping better the lives of our patients and their parents.

Memorable Moments

(Posted with owner’s permission.) Momma is an 18-year-old cat. She came to me a year ago because she was losing weight and eating less. While doing her physical exam, I noticed severe periodontal disease. I discussed my findings with the parents, Momma would need all her teeth extracted. The parents were hesitant to put her under anesthesia at her age. However, I went into detail about the plan, giving them all the information necessary to decide and allowing them to think the entire process through. Momma’s parents called back and decided to go ahead with the surgical extractions of her teeth. She recovered well after the surgery and on subsequent visits was gaining weight, more energetic, and playing with the toys she hadn’t touched in a few years. The parents were excited to have their happy cat back! I think about this case often as it truly shows the difference we make.

The Other Love of My Life

My amazing wife, a son and a daughter, Candy, a Siamese (now 14 years old), and Gracie, a Persian (now 12 years old). Both kitties were adopted during vet school, and they have been wonderful. Candy cannot sleep alone at night and Gracie needs a belly rub every few minutes. My kids don’t need as many belly rubs, but they do love a nice piggyback ride.
