Board Certified Veterinary Oncologist

Dr. Ross Luethcke is a veterinary clinician-scientist specializing in oncology, dedicated to providing compassionate, accessible cancer care for pets and their families. He earned his PhD in Comparative Biomedical Sciences ('19) and DVM ('21) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, then completed his small animal rotating internship at Cornell University ('22) followed by his medical oncology residency at the University of Minnesota ('25).

Dr. Luethcke's research focuses on how social and environmental factors influence cancer risk, prognosis, and treatment decisions in veterinary patients. His work aims to improve access to oncology care by identifying high-risk patient populations, addressing barriers to diagnosis, and developing sustainable strategies to expand evidence-based treatment options across the full spectrum of care. He is especially committed to fostering collaborative partnerships between veterinary professionals and the communities they serve to develop innovative, long-term solutions that improve access to oncology care for all pets and their families.

In the clinic, Dr. Luethcke believes in a team-based approach to cancer care, working closely with other specialists, referring veterinarians, and pet parents to provide comprehensive support at every step of the journey. He recognizes that every family's situation is unique and prioritizes open, compassionate communication to ensure treatment plans align with each pet's needs and their family's goals. Above all, he values quality of life, for both his patients and their caregivers, and strives to empower families with the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions with confidence.

Outside of work, Dr. Luethcke enjoys exploring the outdoors, climbing rocks (and the occasional tree), discovering new music, experimenting in the kitchen, hosting Mario Kart tournaments with his family, and learning the art of napping from his cat, Sasquatch.
